Dog WalkingBUILDING CAPACITY TO ADDRESS OBESITY

Small Steps educational programs are planned by worksite or community leadership teams to make environmental changes through educational programs to prevent obestiy and reduce breast cancer risk

Community members will use community or worksite data to make decisions and set priorities for community environmental strategies to prevent obesity and reduce breast cancer risk.

Objective of the program: Health professionals, community leaders and the public will increase their understanding of the relationship between overweight and obesity and breast cancer risk and will improve their capacity to take an environmental approach to obesity prevention in their community or worksite.

Workshops, classes and mini grants are being held in the Stamford area to increase physical activity and promote healthy food choices to maintain healthy weight as environmental strategies.

Walking groups are encouraged in schools, worksite and communties as part of Small Steps Are Easier Together.  Additional research studies such as walking dog programs are being planned with Cornell.
