Eat Well Play Hard (EWPH)-Healthy Start Partnership
Eat Well Play Hard-Healthy Start partnership works to promote healthy weight in pregnant and nursing moms along with obesity prevention in children ages 2-12.
Eat Well Play Hard strategies encourage children over age 2, their families and communities to: increase age appropriate physical activity, increase consumption of vegetables and fruits and increase intake of low-fat and fat-free dairy products. Recent projects involve: training day care professionals on increasing daily physical activity and nutrition, promoting and improving access to local farmers' markets, farmers' market nutrition program, working with local schools provide elementary teachers with physical activity curriculum, equipment, and training.
Health Start projects include promoting Breastfeeding Friendly Worksites, agency training and breastfeeding support through an active outreach and referral network.

GROWING YOUNG GARDENERS
Training for Day Care Professionals - Saturday, May 8th, 9am - Noon, CCE Resource Center, Hamden.
Extension Educator, Janet Aldrich, will share ideas for helping young children learn the love of gardening. Participants will try their hands at several kid-approved growing projects, and will learn the ABC's of gardening with kids! Activities will center on both container gardens and outdoor gardens. Come with your own tried and true gardening projects to share. If you garden with gloves, bring them.
Extension Nutrition Educators will also provide food demonstrations on how to prepare and store some of the wonderful produce grown in your own backyard!
