The Town of Jewett, NY (http://www.townofjewett.com/) is host to an outdoor hydronic furnace that will heat the town highway garage. The installation is nearly complete as of March 2010.

Outdoor Unit: The Town of Jewett highway garage is being heated with a Woodmaster AFS 1100 outdoor hydronic biomass furnace (www.woodmaster.com) supplemental to an oil fired forced hot air furnace. The hydronic system is being run as a separate system, with ceiling mounted convectors. It is not plumbed into the plenum of the forced hot air furnace. The town highway garage is a retrofitted (insulated) conventional building that is heated only in the bays that are used by the town trucks. We anticipate that the pellet fired system will carry a considerable portion of the heating needs of this building when it is up and running.
The AFS 1100 at this site is attached to a 1.5 ton polybin (www.polydome.com) via auger. This bin is sold with the Woodmaster furnace as a unit. Larger polybins are available if desired, but we chose a 1.5 ton bin because at present we are filling the bin with a 1000 lb bulk bag of grass pellets using a payloader, and there is a limit to the reach of the loader. The assembly and installation/set up of the auxiliary bulk bin was a complicated task. Eventually we will be demonstrating bulk delivery with a feed truck. The AFS 1100 has a twin auger burn chamber feed system and an automatic (auger) ash removal system. It has manual ignition and requires manual heat exchanger cleaning.
