4-H PUBLIC PRESENTATION WORKSHOP

‘More Than One Way to do a Public Presentation’

On Saturday January 9, 2016, a Public Presentation Workshop was held for Delaware County 4-H members and leaders.  Twenty-two 4-Hers, leaders, and parents attended the two hour workshop.  4-H Community Educator Emily Roach presented the program, highlighting the various types of public presentations and the importance of participating in this great program.  4-Hers are able to present Demonstrations, Illustrated Talks, Recitations, Dramatic Interpretations, Speeches, or compete in Horse Communications. 4-H Public Presentations is a progressive program that allows advancement to more challenging levels of evaluation through county, district, and state events. If a 4-Her is chosen to continue on to a more challenging level, they are able to fine-tune his/her presentation before competing at the next level. The higher a 4-Her advances, the more competitive the program becomes. Emily emphasized the impact the ability to give a public presentation can have on the rest of your life.  Public speaking is essential in a young person’s success in elementary and secondary school, college, and later in most careers.  The ability to speak in front of one’s peers, and one’s community can help increase one’s overall self-confidence.

A huge ‘thank you’ to Justine Bishop for presenting an example of a Dramatic Interpretation and to Abigail Dennis for presenting an Illustrated Talk.  You did a great job and the workshop would not have been a success without your help!

Thank you to all who attended and we hope to see you at public presentations either Saturday, February 6th at the Deposit Central School from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon or Saturday, February 20th at the Cornell Cooperative Extension office in Hamden from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The Public Presentation Program is a premier program that teaches life-long skills.  Contact Emily Roach at 607-865-6531 or esc33@cornell.edu at the Extension office if you would like to join Delaware County 4-H.
